Sustainability / Community Care / Diversity & Inclusion

At InterContinental Taichung, we are committed to sustainability and responsible business practices, striving to create a positive impact on our community.

At InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), we are dedicated to creating a sustainable and responsible business that positively impacts the communities where we operate, including Taichung City in Taiwan. Our ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy focuses on reducing our environmental footprint, creating opportunities for our employees and stakeholders, and delivering sustainable value to our shareholders while supporting the local community.

In Taichung City, we are proud to partner with local organizations and initiatives to create positive social impacts. For example, we support community-based tourism programs that offer visitors the chance to experience local culture and traditions while generating economic benefits for the community. We also collaborate with local schools to provide education and training programs that help young people develop the skills and knowledge needed for successful careers in the hospitality industry.

As responsible corporate citizens, we recognize the importance of good governance practices and strive to maintain the highest standards of ethics, transparency, and accountability. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce in Taichung City and providing a safe, healthy workplace for all our employees. In addition, we are focused on reducing our environmental footprint in the city, including reducing energy and water consumption, and sourcing sustainable products and materials.

We believe that our commitment to ESG is not only the right thing to do but also makes good business sense. By integrating sustainable and responsible practices into our operations in Taichung City, we create long-term value for our stakeholders, including our guests, employees, shareholders, and the local community.

IHG Green Engage

  • Control and Record All Energy Use (water, electricity, gas, waste sorting)
  • The hotel has installed 119 kW solar panels on the rooftop, integrating solar energy into the hotel’s power system to provide real-time electricity for hotel use.
  • The hotel has fully adopted LED lighting, combined with building automation systems, to optimize intelligent lighting control within the smart building, achieving the goals of intelligent and automated lighting management.
  • The hotel features extensive large-scale greenery coverage, which prevents direct sunlight from hitting the building and reduces the need for air conditioning.
  • The hotel has established a 450 RT rainwater harvesting system on B5. During the rainy season, rainwater is collected from the rooftop and outdoor areas on the 5th floor. After filtration, it is used for plant irrigation throughout the hotel.
  • Preventive maintenance is regularly performed on hotel amenities to avoid unnecessary leakage and water waste.
  • The air conditioning system uses the latest oil-free maglev technology, reducing power consumption by 20% to 60% compared to traditional air conditioning units.
  • We engage in sustainability and energy-saving education and training for staff and guests.

Reducing our Carbon Footprint from Food

At InterContinental Taichung, our restaurants, including the Italian restaurant IL Limone, Chinese restaurant Ming Juan Lou, lobby bar Leaves & Vines, Cai Yue Hot Pot, and Rolling Bar emphasize the use of fresh, locally sourced ingredients. By bringing farm-to-table dining to the forefront, the hotel significantly reduces the carbon footprint of its ingredients.

Room Amenities

  • The guest room intelligent system updates the latest hotel information in real-time, reducing paper usage and contributing to improved air quality.
  • All room amenities are made from materials that can be recycled and reused, aligning with our eco-friendly philosophy.
  • Bathroom amenities include InterContinental-exclusive BLANCHE-scented large bottles from the Swedish brand BYREDO, creating less plastic waste compared to traditional miniature bottles.

Diverse Culture Team

  • We have collaborated with local government and schools to sign an “IHG Academy” Memorandum of Understanding, offering internship and employment opportunities to drive local job creation and economic growth.
  • We offer flexible working hours and welcome colleagues from diverse backgrounds to join us.
